Want to play Tomb Raider PC in Japanese? Then, get ready to throw $30
Developed by Crystal Dynamics and published by Square Enix, Tomb Raider is an action-thriller video game. The game has sold 3.4 million copies worldwide so far.
Tomb Raider hasn’t been released in the Japan yet. Square Enix will launch the game in the island nation on April 25.
According to a post on Square Enix’s Japanese website, when the game hits the Japanese market, gamers worldwide can add the Japanese Language support to their Steam version of the game with the Japanese Language Pack DLC that includes both the Japanese subtitles and a Japanese language voice track.
This is something cool and kinda forward-thinking. The part that is less cool is - the pack costs $30, which sounds pricy in any language.
According to the game’s North American Steam listing, the game offers “full audio support” for English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Russian, Polish and Arabic. The game also supports Korean, Traditional Chinese, Dutch, Czech and Portuguese through subtitles.
Japanese is not supported. That’s why, Square Enix offers the Japanese Language Pack separately and aimed at Japanese speakers who purchase the game on Steam
While the steam version of the game costs $50, the retail version in Japan costs ¥7,980 (around $80). Yes, video games are always too expensive in Japan. And Square Enix is artificially ensuring that’s the case for the steam version of the game too.
